Biography

Theoni V. Aldredge was a Greek-American costume designer who worked extensively in theatre and film. She trained at the Goodman School of Drama in Chicago and began her Broadway career in 1959 with the wardrobe for Geraldine Page in Sweet Bird of Youth. For two decades she served as principal designer for Joseph Papp’s New York Shakespeare Festival.

Aldredge received three Tony Awards for her stage designs, for Annie, Barnum and La Cage aux Folles, along with numerous other nominations. Her film credits include Network (1976), The Great Gatsby (1974), for which she won an Academy Award, Ghostbusters (1984), Moonstruck (1987) and Addams Family Values (1993). She was married to actor Tom Aldredge.
