Biography
Todd Boekelheide (born 27 June 1954) is an American composer based in the San Francisco Bay Area. He is best known for his scores for documentary films. He began working in film in 1974 as a projectionist at Francis Ford Coppola's American Zoetrope in San Francisco, later editing picture and sound on Star Wars (1977) and The Black Stallion (1979). He studied music at Mills College in Oakland before scoring his first films.
Boekelheide composed the score for Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker's Apocalypse (1991). His other documentary credits include Kids of Survival: The Life and Art of Tim Rollins and K.O.S. (1997), for which he won an Emmy, Ballets Russes (2005) and 3½ Minutes, Ten Bullets (2015). He has also worked extensively as a sound re-recording mixer, winning an Academy Award for Amadeus (1984) and receiving a nomination for Never Cry Wolf (1983).
He has received further Emmy nominations for his scores for Boffo! Tinseltown's Bombs and Blockbusters (2006) and Blessed Is the Match (2008).
