Biography
Tooru Hara (also credited as Toru Hara or Tohru Hara; Japanese: 原 徹) was a Japanese animation producer. Born on 26 December 1935 in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka, he joined Toei Douga in 1959 and later founded the animation studio Top Craft in 1972.
Hara produced Grave of the Fireflies (1988) and My Neighbor Totoro (1988). He also served as executive producer or producer on other early Studio Ghibli films, including Castle in the Sky (1986), Kiki's Delivery Service (1989) and Only Yesterday (1991). After Top Craft's assets were reorganised into Studio Ghibli in 1985, Hara became the studio's managing director and CEO until his departure in 1991.
