Biography
Torin Thatcher was a British actor. Born Torin Herbert Erskine Thatcher on 15 January 1905 in Bombay, British India, to British parents, he was educated at Bedford School and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. He worked as a schoolmaster before making his London stage debut in 1927.
Thatcher appeared with the Old Vic, including in the 1937 production of Hamlet opposite Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh. During the Second World War he served with the Royal Artillery and was demobilised with the rank of lieutenant colonel. He entered British films in 1934 and appeared in titles such as Great Expectations (1946). He moved to Hollywood in the 1950s and played Mr. Myers in Witness for the Prosecution (1957). His other film roles include Senator Gallio in The Robe (1953), Sokurah in The 7th Voyage of Sinbad (1958) and Staines in Mutiny on the Bounty (1962). He also appeared in television series including Star Trek (1966).
