Biography
Tristan de Vere Cole (born Tristan John de Vere Cole) is an English television director, now retired. Born on 16 March 1935 in Redruth, Cornwall, he served in the Royal Navy from 1953 to 1960, then worked as an actor and assistant stage manager at the Bristol Old Vic before joining the BBC in 1961.
His directing credits include episodes of Z-Cars, Doctor Who (notably the 1968 serial The Wheel in Space), Emmerdale Farm (including its first episode in 1972), Survivors, Secret Army, Howards' Way and Bergerac. He also directed the feature films Orion's Belt (1985) and Dykket (1989). In 1974 he co-wrote a biography of his mother, Beautiful and Beloved: The Life of Mavis de Vere Cole.
