Biography
George Spenton-Foster (born Thomas George Spenton) was a British television director and producer. Born on 11 November 1926 in Lambeth, London, he died on 26 December 1993 in the same borough. He joined the BBC in 1948 as a call boy under the name George Spenton and later became a production assistant before being promoted to director in 1963, adopting Spenton-Foster as his professional name by the mid-1960s.
He produced anthology series including Thirty-Minute Theatre and worked in Australia on the short-lived series The Link Men (1970). As a director he is known for episodes of Doctor Who (1963), Coronation Street (1960) and Blake's 7 (1978). For Doctor Who he directed the stories Image of the Fendahl (1977) and The Ribos Operation (1978). He directed four episodes of the second series of Blake's 7 in 1979: "Weapon", "Pressure Point", "Voice from the Past" and "Gambit".
His cousin was the actress and singer Queenie Watts.
