Biography
William Sandell, also credited as Bill Sandell, is an American production designer and art director. Born on 9 August 1950 in Los Angeles, he began working in films as a set dresser and assistant art director on exploitation pictures such as Invasion of the Bee Girls (1973). His first credit as production designer came with The Promise (1979).
Sandell has designed sets for numerous high-profile films, including RoboCop (1987) and Total Recall (1990) for director Paul Verhoeven, Air Force One (1997) and The Perfect Storm (2000) for Wolfgang Petersen, The Flintstones (1994), Hocus Pocus (1993), Deep Blue Sea (1999), Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003), and Poseidon (2006). He received an Academy Award nomination for best art direction for Master and Commander (shared with Robert Gould).
