Biography
Alan Hugh Dale is a New Zealand actor. Born in Dunedin on 6 May 1947, he began his professional acting career in his late twenties after working in radio and other jobs. He moved to Australia, where he appeared as Dr John Forrest in the soap The Young Doctors (1979–1982) and then as Jim Robinson in Neighbours from 1985 to 1993.
After leaving Neighbours, Dale struggled to find work in Australia but revived his career following a move to the United States in 2000. He has since taken recurring and guest roles in American series including The O.C. (as Caleb Nichol), Ugly Betty (as Bradford Meade), Lost (as Charles Widmore) and NCIS (as Tom Morrow). His film credits include Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008) and Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014). He appeared as the Australian Ambassador in the series Flight of the Conchords (2007).
