Biography
Alex Lawther is an English actor. He was born on 4 May 1995 in Winchester, Hampshire, and raised in Petersfield. He began acting in theatre at the age of 16, playing the lead in David Hare’s South Downs at the Minerva Theatre in Chichester, later appearing in the West End production.
Lawther is known for his role as young Alan Turing in the film The Imitation Game (2014), for which he received the London Film Critics’ Circle Award for Young British Performer of the Year. He has also appeared as Kenny in the Black Mirror episode “Shut Up and Dance” (2016), as James in the series The End of the F*ing World (2017–2019), as Karis Nemik in Andor (2022–2025), and as Joe Hermit in the series Alien: Earth (2025). He has worked as a writer and director.
