Biography

Alex Norton (born 27 January 1950) is a Scottish actor. He was one of the founder members of the 7:84 theatre company and toured Scotland in the 1970s with The Cheviot, the Stag and the Black Black Oil. He trained informally through theatre work before moving into television and film.

Norton played Watt in the 1983 film Local Hero and McAngus, Duke of Argyll in the 1983 series The Black Adder. He is known for his role as DCI Matt Burke in the STV series Taggart (2002–2010) and as Eric Baird in the BBC sitcom Two Doors Down (2013–present). He has appeared in Bill Forsyth films including Gregory's Girl (1981) and Comfort and Joy (1984), as well as Braveheart (1995), Patriot Games (1992) and The Count of Monte Cristo (2002).
