Biography

Alexander Berner is a German film editor. Born in Munich in 1966, he trained as a graphic designer in London before working as an editor on music videos, commercials and documentaries. In 1989 he directed the short music documentary Inheritance.

Berner returned to Munich and worked as a sound editor before becoming a freelance editor on television and documentaries. In 1992 he co-founded Digital Editors GmbH. His feature-film editing debut came in 1994 with Night of the Archer. He won the German Film Prize for editing Joseph Vilsmaier's Schlafes Bruder (1996) and has since edited numerous German and international productions, including Resident Evil (2002), Perfume: The Story of a Murderer (2006), Cloud Atlas (2012), Jupiter Ascending (2015) and Miss Sloane (2016). He edited two episodes of the series MobLand (2025). Berner is a founding member of the Deutsche Filmakademie and has received multiple German Film Prize nominations and wins.
