Biography
Alwin H. Küchler is a German cinematographer. Born in 1965 in Düsseldorf, he began his career as an assistant to a fashion photographer before developing an interest in film while supporting a friend on a student project.
He studied cinematography at the National Film and Television School from 1990 to 1994. There he met director Lynne Ramsay, for whom he shot several short films and his first feature, Ratcatcher (1999). He has since worked on films including Morvern Callar (2002), Code 46 (2003), Sunshine (2007), Steve Jobs (2015), The Mauritanian (2021) and Tetris (2023).
Küchler was nominated for the European Film Award for Best Cinematographer for Morvern Callar and Code 46. He received a BAFTA nomination for The Mauritanian. He has been married to director Ngozi Onwurah since 1998.
