Biography
Arthur Wimperis was an English playwright, lyricist and screenwriter. Born in London on 3 December 1874, he began his career as an illustrator before writing lyrics and libretti for Edwardian musical comedies from 1906, including the hit The Arcadians (1909). He served in the Second Boer War and the First World War.
From 1930 he turned to screenwriting, contributing to numerous British films, often in collaboration with Alexander Korda. His credits include the story for The Private Life of Henry VIII (1933) and the scenario for The Scarlet Pimpernel (1934). In the 1940s he worked in Hollywood, sharing an Academy Award for the screenplay of Mrs. Miniver (1942) and receiving a nomination for Random Harvest (1942). He died on 14 October 1953 in Maidenhead, Berkshire.
