Biography
George Froeschel (also credited as Georg Fröschel) was an Austrian screenwriter. Born in Vienna in 1891, he trained as a lawyer and worked as a journalist and novelist before emigrating to the United States in 1936. He joined MGM as a screenwriter in 1939.
Froeschel is best known for his work on several MGM films in the 1940s and 1950s. He shared the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for Mrs. Miniver (1942) with James Hilton, Claudine West and Arthur Wimperis, and received a nomination in the same category for Random Harvest (1942). Other credits include Waterloo Bridge (1940), The Mortal Storm (1940), Scaramouche (1952) and Quentin Durward (1955). He died in Los Angeles in 1979.
