Biography
Beth Mickle is a production designer. Raised in Douglassville, Pennsylvania, she began making short films with her brother, director Jim Mickle. She later moved to New York to study at Columbia University.
Mickle gained early recognition for her work with directors Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden on Half Nelson (2006). She collaborated with Nicolas Winding Refn on Drive (2011), for which she received an Art Directors Guild nomination, and Only God Forgives (2013). She also worked with Ryan Gosling on his directorial debut Lost River (2014). Other credits include Focus (2015), 2 Guns (2013), Arbitrage (2012) and the first season of the HBO series The Deuce (2017).
Mickle has served as production designer on The Suicide Squad (2021), Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023), Megalopolis (2024) and Superman (2025). She has received a BAFTA nomination for An Englishman in New York (2009) and has worked on international locations including Argentina, Russia, Thailand and the Dominican Republic. She lives in Hudson, New York, with her partner, production designer Russell Barnes.
