Biography

Burton Armus (also credited as Burt Armus) was an American television writer and producer. Born in New York in 1934, he began his career as an NYPD detective before serving as technical advisor on the series Kojak from 1973, for which he also wrote nine episodes and appeared as an actor in three.

After retiring from the police force, Armus moved to Los Angeles and wrote for numerous series, including The Streets of San Francisco, CHiPs, The Fall Guy, Knight Rider, Airwolf, Street Hawk and Star Trek: The Next Generation. He worked as a producer on several programmes and contributed to NYPD Blue as writer, executive story consultant and co-producer, earning a Primetime Emmy Award in 1995 for Outstanding Drama Series. Armus died in 2024.
