Biography
Catherine Martin is an Australian production designer, costume designer, and film producer. She trained at the National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney and began her career in theatre design before moving into film.
She has collaborated extensively with director Baz Luhrmann since their first feature together, Strictly Ballroom (1992), on which she worked as both production designer and (with Angus Strathie) costume designer. Her production design credits include Romeo + Juliet (1996), Moulin Rouge! (2001), Australia (2008), The Great Gatsby (2013), and Elvis (2022).
Martin has received four Academy Awards, six BAFTA Awards, and a Tony Award. She was appointed a Companion of the Order of Australia in 2025.
