Biography
Christoph Kanter is an Austrian production designer. He studied architecture at the Technische Hochschule Wien before attending the Wiener Hochschule für Angewandte Kunst, where he completed the master class in stage and film design. He has worked as a freelance set designer for theatre and film since 1982.
Kanter has maintained a long collaboration with director Michael Haneke, providing production design for nine of his films beginning with Benny's Video (1992). These include Funny Games (1997), The Piano Teacher (2001), Caché (2005), Time of the Wolf (2003), 71 Fragments of a Chronology of Chance (1995) and The White Ribbon (2009). He has also worked with other Austrian directors including Michael Glawogger, Robert Dornhelm and Wolfgang Murnberger.
For The White Ribbon he received the Deutscher Filmpreis in 2010. He won the Österreichischer Filmpreis for the children's film Lilly the Witch: The Journey to Mandolan (2011) and received further nominations for Ludwig II (2012) and The Devil's Violinist (2013).
