Biography
Conrad Lafcadio Hall was a French Polynesian-born American cinematographer. Born on 21 June 1926 in Papeete, Tahiti, he died on 4 January 2003 in Santa Monica, California. The son of writer James Norman Hall, he studied filmmaking at the University of Southern California.
Hall received three Academy Awards for Best Cinematography, for Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969), American Beauty (1999) and Road to Perdition (2002). He was also nominated for the award on seven other occasions, including for In Cold Blood (1967), Tequila Sunrise (1988), Searching for Bobby Fischer (1993) and A Civil Action (1998). Other notable credits include Cool Hand Luke (1967) and Marathon Man (1976). He received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and lifetime achievement awards from the American Society of Cinematographers.
