Biography
William Goldman was an American novelist, playwright and screenwriter. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, on 12 August 1931 and died in New York City on 16 November 2018. He studied at Oberlin College and Columbia University before publishing his first novel in 1957 and later moving into screenwriting.
Goldman won Academy Awards for his screenplays for Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969) and All the President's Men (1976). He also wrote the screenplays for The Princess Bride (1987), Misery (1990) and Chaplin (1992), and adapted his own novels Marathon Man and The Princess Bride for the screen. Other credits include Maverick (1994), Absolute Power (1997) and Dreamcatcher (2003).
