Biography
Doug Chiang is an American film designer and production designer. Born in Taipei, Taiwan, he studied at the College for Creative Studies and UCLA before beginning his career as a stop-motion animator on Pee-wee's Playhouse. He joined Industrial Light & Magic in 1991 and was later selected by George Lucas to head the art department for Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999) and Episode II – Attack of the Clones (2002).
Chiang has served as production designer on Robert Zemeckis films including The Polar Express (2004), Beowulf (2007) and A Christmas Carol (2009). He returned to Lucasfilm in 2013 as vice president and executive creative director, overseeing design for the Star Wars franchise. His credits include Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016), The Mandalorian (2019–2023), Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022), Pinocchio (2022) and The Mandalorian and Grogu (2026). He has received an Academy Award and BAFTA Awards for visual effects work on Death Becomes Her (1992) and Forrest Gump (1994).
