Biography
Edward James Olmos is an American actor and director. Born on 24 February 1947 in East Los Angeles, California, he began his career in theatre and gained prominence for his role as El Pachuco in the stage production and 1981 film adaptation of Zoot Suit.
Olmos is known for his performances as Detective Gaff in Blade Runner (1982) and its sequel Blade Runner 2049 (2017), Lieutenant Martin Castillo in the television series Miami Vice (1984–1989), and Jaime Escalante in Stand and Deliver (1988). He received an Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award for his work in Miami Vice, and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor for Stand and Deliver. Other notable roles include William Adama in Battlestar Galactica (2004–2009) and the voice of Chicharrón in Coco (2017).
