Biography
Erich Pommer, also credited as Eric Pommer, was a German film producer. He was born on 20 July 1889 in Hildesheim, Germany, and died on 8 May 1966 in Los Angeles.
He entered the film industry with Gaumont in Berlin and Paris, then founded Decla Film in 1915. The company merged into Decla-Bioskop and was later absorbed by UFA. As head of production at these companies from the early 1920s, he oversaw films including The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920), Dr. Mabuse, the Gambler (1922), The Last Laugh (1924), Faust (1926) and Metropolis (1927).
Pommer left UFA in 1926 and worked in Hollywood and Britain, where he produced Jamaica Inn (1939). He returned to Germany after the Second World War to help reorganise the film industry.
