Biography
Fritz von Friedl (born Friedrich Waldemar Wilhelm Friedl, Ritter von Liebentreu) was an Austrian cinematographer. He worked as a camera assistant in the early 1930s before taking on cinematography roles, primarily on documentaries, newsreels and short films.
He contributed (uncredited) to Leni Riefenstahl’s Olympia Part One: Festival of the Nations and Olympia Part Two: Festival of Beauty (both 1938). His other credits include 90 Minuten Aufenthalt (1936), Der unmögliche Herr Pitt (1938) and Menschen, Tiere, Sensationen (1938). He later worked on postwar documentaries and industrial films, and taught at the Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna.
He was the father of actors Fritz von Friedl and Loni von Friedl, and grandfather of actor Christoph von Friedl.
