Biography
Hans Karl Gottschalk (22 November 1891 – 27 May 1941) was a German cinematographer. He began working in film in 1915 as a still photographer before becoming an assistant cameraman and, after the First World War, a chief cinematographer on numerous silent films.
His credits include Der Sonderling (1929) and Der weiße Rausch (1931). He was one of the cinematographers on Leni Riefenstahl’s Triumph des Willens (1935) and the two-part Olympia (1938). With the outbreak of the Second World War he joined the German navy and was among those lost when the battleship Bismarck was sunk in the North Atlantic.
