Biography
Guzzi Lantschner, born Gustav Lantschner on 12 August 1910 in Innsbruck, Austria, was a skier, actor and cinematographer. He competed successfully in alpine skiing during the early 1930s, winning medals at world championships and a silver medal in the slalom at the 1936 Winter Olympics.
Lantschner began acting in mountain films, appearing in Der weiße Rausch (1931), Abenteuer im Engadin (1932) and Nordpol – Ahoi! (1934). His connection with Leni Riefenstahl led to work behind the camera; he served as cinematographer and editor on Triumph des Willens (1935) and the two-part documentary Olympia (1938).
He also directed short documentaries including Wilde Wasser (1937) and Osterskitour in Tirol (1940). Lantschner died on 19 March 2011 in Krailling, Germany.
