Biography
Giuseppe Amato, born Giuseppe Vasaturo, was an Italian film producer, screenwriter and director. He began his career as an actor in 1914 before working as an assistant photographer, scenarist and director, and later establishing his own production company.
Amato produced 58 films between 1932 and 1961. He is known for Bicycle Thieves (1948), Rome, Open City (1945), Umberto D. (1952), The Little World of Don Camillo (1952), The Return of Don Camillo (1953) and La Dolce Vita (1960). He also produced The Facts of Murder (1959) and served as associate producer on The Flowers of St. Francis (1950).
Amato died in Rome on 3 February 1964.
