Biography
Hideo Oguni (1904–1996) was a Japanese screenwriter. He wrote over 100 screenplays and is best known for his work with director Akira Kurosawa on films including Ikiru (1952), Seven Samurai (1954), Throne of Blood (1957) and The Hidden Fortress (1958).
Oguni's first collaboration with Kurosawa was on Ikiru. He contributed to further Kurosawa films such as Sanjuro (1962), High and Low (1963) and Ran (1985). In 2013, Oguni and frequent collaborators Kurosawa, Shinobu Hashimoto and Ryūzō Kikushima were awarded the Jean Renoir Award by the Writers Guild of America West.
Other writing credits include Where Chimneys Are Seen (1953), Warning from Space (1956), Tora! Tora! Tora! (1970) and Machibuse (1970).
