Biography
Hugh Quarshie is a Ghanaian-born British actor. He was born on 22 December 1954 in Accra, Ghana, and moved to the United Kingdom with his family at the age of three. He studied PPE at Christ Church, Oxford, and has been a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company since 1981.
Quarshie is known for playing Captain Panaka in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999) and Ric Griffin in the BBC medical drama Holby City (2001–2020). His other film roles include Sunda Kastagir in Highlander (1986) and appearances in Nightbreed (1990) and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018). He has received nominations for a Laurence Olivier Award and a BAFTA Television Award, and has won a Critics' Circle Theatre Award and an Emmy Award.
