Biography
J. Stewart Burns, also credited as Joseph Stewart Burns, is an American television writer and producer. He was born on 4 December 1969. He is best known for his work on the animated series The Simpsons (1989–present) and Futurama (1999–present), and has also written for Unhappily Ever After (1995–1999) and Beavis and Butt-Head (1993–1997).
Burns attended Harvard University, where he contributed to the Harvard Lampoon. He holds an M.A. in Mathematics from the University of California, Berkeley. He began his professional writing career on Beavis and Butt-Head before joining the staff of The Simpsons and Futurama.
Burns has received four Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Animated Program: for Futurama in 2002 and for The Simpsons in 2006, 2008 and 2019. He has also written for video games including the 2003 Futurama game and Spyro: A Hero's Tail (2004), and developed The Simpsons: Tapped Out.
