Biography
Jack Harris (1905–1971) was a British film editor. He began his career in 1921 at the Gaumont Studios in Shepherd's Bush and worked as an assistant director before settling into editing after the advent of sound, initially at Twickenham Studios.
Harris edited several films directed by David Lean in the 1940s, including This Happy Breed (1944), Blithe Spirit (1945), Brief Encounter (1945), Great Expectations (1946) and Oliver Twist (1948). He later worked as a supervising editor at Pinewood and on productions at Ealing Studios, including The Ladykillers (1955), as well as films such as The Crimson Pirate (1952), Captain Horatio Hornblower R.N. (1951) and The Prince and the Showgirl (1957). He was regarded by many of his peers as one of the leading British editors of the period from the 1930s to the 1950s.
