Biography
Jake Eberts, also credited as John David Eberts, was a Canadian film producer, executive and financier. Born in Montreal on 10 July 1941, he studied chemical engineering at McGill University and business at Harvard Business School before working in engineering and finance.
In 1977 he co-founded Goldcrest Films with David Puttnam, serving as president and chief executive. The company financed or produced a series of acclaimed British films including Chariots of Fire (1981, uncredited) and Gandhi (1982). After leaving Goldcrest he established Allied Filmmakers and continued as executive producer or producer on The Name of the Rose (1986), Driving Miss Daisy (1989), Dances with Wolves (1990), A River Runs Through It (1992) and Chicken Run (2000).
Eberts produced Super Mario Bros. (1993) and later served as executive producer on titles including Open Range (2003) and The Way Back (2010). He died in Montreal on 6 September 2012.
