Biography
James Hiroyuki Liao is an American actor. Born on 6 February 1976 in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, New York City, he is the son of a Taiwanese father and a Japanese mother. He graduated from the Juilliard School's drama division in 2004.
He trained at the Marjorie Ballentine Studio and made his professional stage debut portraying Song Liling in a Washington, D.C. Arena Stage production of M. Butterfly. Liao is known for his television roles as Roland Glenn in Prison Break (2008), Jay Lee in Unforgettable (2013–2016) and Albert Nguyen in Barry (2019–2022). Film appearances include Battle: Los Angeles (2011) and Star Trek Into Darkness (2013). He played San in the 2025 television film Star Trek: Section 31 and provided voice and motion-capture performance as Kenji in the video game Ghost of Tsushima (2020).
