Biography
James Wilby is an English actor. Born in Rangoon, Burma, in 1958, he studied mathematics at Grey College, Durham University, and trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.
Wilby made his screen debut in Privileged (1982). He gained international attention for his leading role in the Merchant Ivory film Maurice (1987), for which he shared the Volpi Cup for Best Actor at the Venice Film Festival. Subsequent roles include A Handful of Dust (1988), Charles Wilcox in Howards End (1992), and Freddie Nesbitt in Gosford Park (2001). He has also appeared in Regeneration (1997) and numerous television productions.
