Biography
Joan Sobel is a film editor. She studied illustration at the Parsons School of Design and English at Montclair State University. She began her career in 1990 as an assistant editor on the documentary American Dream and later worked as first assistant editor to Sally Menke on Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill: Vol. 1 (2003) and Kill Bill: Vol. 2 (2004), having previously assisted on Paul Thomas Anderson's Boogie Nights (1997).
Sobel took her first solo feature editing credit on The Quiet (2005). She has edited Tom Ford's A Single Man (2009) and Nocturnal Animals (2016), the latter earning her a BAFTA nomination for Best Editing. Her other editing credits include Admission (2013), The Rhythm Section (2020), Moon Knight (2022) and My Mother's Wedding (2023). She is a member of the American Cinema Editors, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and BAFTA.
