Biography
Joseph Wright (born 25 August 1972) is an English film and television director. He began his career directing music videos and television series, including the miniseries Nature Boy (2000) and episodes of Bob & Rose (2001). He won a BAFTA TV Award for Best Drama Series for the BBC serial Charles II: The Power and the Passion (2003).
Wright made his feature directorial debut with the period drama Pride & Prejudice (2005), for which he received a BAFTA award for Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer. Subsequent films include Atonement (2007), Hanna (2011), Anna Karenina (2012), Pan (2015), Darkest Hour (2017), Cyrano (2021) and The Woman in the Window (2021). He has directed the Black Mirror episode "Nosedive" (2016) and the series Mussolini: Son of the Century (2025). He has been nominated for six BAFTA Film Awards.
