Biography

John August is an American screenwriter. His credits include the films Go (1999), Charlie's Angels (2000), Big Fish (2003), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005), Corpse Bride (2005), Frankenweenie (2012) and Aladdin (2019).

Born in Boulder, Colorado, in 1970, August studied journalism at Drake University and film at the University of Southern California's Peter Stark Producing Program. He has also written the Arlo Finch series of novels and hosts the screenwriting podcast Scriptnotes with Craig Mazin. In 2016 he received the Writers Guild of America West's Valentine Davies Award.
