Biography
John Hughes (1950–2009) was an American filmmaker who wrote, directed and produced comedy films. He began his screenwriting career contributing to National Lampoon magazine and made his directorial debut with Sixteen Candles (1984).
Hughes wrote and directed The Breakfast Club (1985), Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986) and Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987). He wrote the screenplay for and produced Home Alone (1990), directed by Chris Columbus, and its sequel Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992). Later credits include the screenplay for 101 Dalmatians (1996).
He was born in Lansing, Michigan, and died in New York City.
