Biography
John J. Lloyd (30 June 1922 – 20 September 2014) was an American art director and production designer. Born in Dearborn, Michigan, he moved with his family to California in the mid-1920s. He graduated from the Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles and began his career in the 1950s at Revue Studios (later Universal), contributing to numerous television series.
Lloyd worked extensively in television, including on 137 episodes of Alfred Hitchcock Presents and winning a Primetime Emmy for art direction on Checkmate. His feature film credits as production designer include MacArthur (1977), The Blues Brothers (1980), The Thing (1982), Big Trouble in Little China (1986), The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! (1988) and its 1991 sequel. He collaborated with directors John Landis on National Lampoon's Animal House (art direction, 1978), The Blues Brothers and Into the Night (1985), and with John Carpenter on The Thing and Big Trouble in Little China.
Lloyd died of congestive heart failure at his home in Woodland Hills, California.
