Biography

John McConnell, also credited as John "Spud" McConnell, is an American actor born on 13 November 1958 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He is based in New Orleans and has appeared in more than 40 films, including King of the Hill (1993) as Patrolman Burns, Interview with the Vampire (1994) as a gambler, O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000) as the Woolworths manager, Django Unchained (2012), 12 Years a Slave (2013) as Jonus Ray, and Instant Family (2018) as Mr Muskie.

On stage, McConnell performed in an off-Broadway production of the one-man show The Kingfish, portraying Louisiana Governor Huey P. Long. He has also portrayed Ignatius J. Reilly from A Confederacy of Dunces and served as the model for a bronze statue of the character in New Orleans. He is married to actor and producer Maureen Brennan.

McConnell has had recurring television roles, including multiple appearances as Bob on Roseanne (1994–1996) and parts in The Riches and Treme. He has also worked as a radio personality, hosting "The Spud Show".
