Biography
John Meredyth Lucas (1919–2002) was an American writer, director and producer who worked primarily in television. The son of screenwriter Bess Meredyth and actor-director Wilfred Lucas, and the adopted son of director Michael Curtiz, he began his career as an apprentice script clerk at Warner Bros. before becoming a screenwriter in 1950 and moving into television in 1953.
He is best known for his contributions to Star Trek (1966), where he wrote four episodes including "The Changeling" (1967) and "Patterns of Force" (1968), directed three including "The Ultimate Computer" (1968) and "Elaan of Troyius" (1968) — the only episode of the original series directed by its writer — and served as producer for much of the second season. He was also co-producer on The Fugitive (1963) and worked as writer, director or producer on series including Ben Casey, Mannix, Insight, Night Gallery and The Six Million Dollar Man (1974). He received two Emmy Award nominations for his work on Insight.
