Biography
John Woolf was a British film producer. Born in London on 15 March 1913, he was the son of producer C. M. Woolf and the elder brother of producer James Woolf. He was educated at Eton College and the Institut Montana in Switzerland. In 1948 he and his brother founded the production company Romulus Films after leaving the Rank Organisation.
Woolf produced a series of notable British and international films, including The African Queen (1952), Room at the Top (1959), Oliver! (1968) and The Odessa File (1974). He also produced the 1973 adaptation of The Day of the Jackal. Oliver! won the Academy Award for Best Picture. Woolf was knighted in 1975. He died in London on 28 June 1999.
