Biography
Jon Plowman is a British television and film producer. Born in 1953 in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, he was educated at University College, Oxford, where he was involved with the University College Players. After university he worked in theatre, including at the Royal Court Theatre, before joining Granada Television and then the BBC in 1980.
At the BBC he produced and executive produced numerous comedy programmes, including A Bit of Fry & Laurie, French & Saunders, Bottom, The Vicar of Dibley, The Office, Extras, The Thick of It, Inside No. 9 and the first four series of Absolutely Fabulous (1992–2001). He served as Head of Comedy Entertainment from 1994 and Head of Comedy from 2005 until leaving the post in 2007 to work as a freelance producer. He also produced the 2016 film Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie.
Plowman received the Royal Television Society's Judges' Award for Outstanding Contribution to British Television in 2006 and was appointed OBE. He is credited as executive producer on later series including All My Friends Hate Me (2022).
