Biography

Julie Martin is an American television writer and producer. She has written for the NBC crime dramas Homicide: Life on the Street (1993), Law & Order (1990), Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (1999), Law & Order: Criminal Intent (2001) and Law & Order: Organized Crime (2021). She has also written episodes of L.A. Law (1986) and Kings (2009).

Martin began her television writing career on L.A. Law, where she worked as a story editor and writer. She later joined the staff of Homicide: Life on the Street as a story editor and writer for its third season in 1994, rising to co-executive producer by the final season. She collaborated frequently with showrunner Tom Fontana.

For her work on Homicide, Martin won a Humanitas Prize and received a Writers Guild of America Award nomination. She has also been nominated for an Edgar Award for her contributions to Law & Order: Criminal Intent. She served as an executive producer on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit from 2011 until 2025.
