Biography
Lem Dobbs, born Anton Lemuel Kitaj, is a British-American screenwriter. He is the son of painter R. B. Kitaj and adopted his pen name from the Humphrey Bogart character in The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948). He trained at the American School in London and appeared as a child actor in The Boy Who Turned Yellow (1972).
Dobbs's screenplays include Kafka (1991), The Limey (1999) and Haywire (2011), all directed by Steven Soderbergh. He received co-writing credit on Dark City (1998) and The Score (2001), and contributed the story for Lee (2024). Other credits include The Hard Way (1991), The Company You Keep (2012) and Gotti (2018).
He has been married to Dana Kraft since 1991.
