Biography

Lucian Johnston is an American film editor. He studied writing at Sarah Lawrence College in New York state and began his career in post-production as an intern on Honeydripper (2007). He worked as an assistant editor on films including Hostiles (2017), The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected) (2017) and The Ballad of Buster Scruggs (2018).

Johnston's first solo editing credit was on Ari Aster's Hereditary (2018), on which he collaborated with Jennifer Lame. He went on to edit Aster's Midsommar (2019) and Beau Is Afraid (2023), as well as Joel Coen's The Tragedy of Macbeth (2021), Lila Neugebauer's Causeway (2022) and Annie Baker's Janet Planet (2023). He edited Aster's Eddington (2025).
