Biography
Mario Serandrei was an Italian film editor and screenwriter. Born in Naples on 23 May 1907, he began working in cinema in the late 1920s and specialised in editing from the early 1940s.
He maintained a long collaboration with Luchino Visconti, editing Ossessione (1943), Bellissima (1951), Senso (1954), Rocco and His Brothers (1960) and The Leopard (1963). He is credited with coining the term “neorealism” in reference to Ossessione. Other notable credits include several films directed by Mario Bava and, with Mario Morra, The Battle of Algiers (1966).
Serandrei edited more than two hundred films and worked with directors including Federico Fellini, Valerio Zurlini and Pietro Francisci. He died on 17 April 1966.
