Biography
Mary Steenburgen is an American actress. She was born on 8 February 1953 in Newport, Arkansas, and studied at the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre in New York in the 1970s.
She made her film debut in Goin' South (1978). Steenburgen received the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Melvin and Howard (1980). She has appeared in films including Back to the Future Part III (1990), What's Eating Gilbert Grape (1993), Philadelphia (1993) as Belinda Conine, Elf (2003), Step Brothers (2008) and Nightmare Alley (2021).
Steenburgen has worked with director Jonathan Demme on more than one occasion. She has been married to actor Ted Danson since 1995.
