Biography
Michael McKean is an American actor, comedian, screenwriter, composer and musician. Born in New York City on 17 October 1947, he trained at Carnegie Mellon University and New York University. He began his career in the comedy troupe The Credibility Gap and gained prominence as Lenny Kosnowski in the sitcom Laverne & Shirley (1976–1983).
McKean is known for his collaborations with Christopher Guest, appearing in This Is Spinal Tap (1984) as David St. Hubbins, Best in Show (2000) as Stefan Vanderhoof, A Mighty Wind (2003) and For Your Consideration (2006). He co-wrote songs for A Mighty Wind, winning a Grammy Award, and received an Academy Award nomination for another. He was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for his role as Chuck McGill in Better Call Saul (2015–2022).
He has also voiced characters in animated series including The Simpsons and SpongeBob SquarePants, and appeared in films such as Clue (1985). McKean has been married to actress Annette O'Toole since 1999.
