Biography

Michael Paul Chan is an American actor. Born on 26 June 1950 in San Francisco, California, he is a third-generation Chinese American. He trained at San Francisco State University and the American Conservatory Theater, and is a founding member of the Asian American Theater Company.

Chan is known for playing Lieutenant Michael Tao on the TNT series The Closer (2005–2012) and its spin-off Major Crimes (2012–2018). His film roles include Data's father in The Goonies (1985), Mr. Lee in Falling Down (1993), a Wayne Enterprises executive in Batman Forever (1995), and Vincent Vy Ngo in Spy Game (2001). He has also appeared in The Joy Luck Club (1993), U.S. Marshals (1998), and provided a voice on The Simpsons (2011).

Chan has been married to Christina Ann Chan since 1975; they have one child. His brother was the author and academic Jeffery Paul Chan.
